If your phone rings and the person on the end of the line says they’re calling from the “Microsoft Windows Security Centre” and that they’ve detected a virus on your computer, don’t believe them.
What these fraudsters are hoping for is that people will be concerned about the prospect of a harmful virus and want to hear more. Once they’ve got your ear, they’ll proceed to tell you there is a piece of downloadable software available to clean up your computer at a reasonable price. All they need is your credit card information, and they’ll install it for you.
Remember, never give out credit card information, banking details or passwords to anyone over the phone.
